Having been an entrepreneur for 15 years, I noticed there are many lessons that can be learned from not always knowing where my next paycheck was coming from: One of the most challenging is understanding and applying the principles of good character and integrity in all aspects of your life, especially business. Without this as a foundation, no organization, system, or society can grow and thrive. We all must find a way towards the betterment and wellbeing of the entire human race in every capacity.

In recent years, the term “sustainability” has evolved to become synonymous with corporate social responsibility and the triple bottom line of social equity, environmental stewardship and profits. Through my reflection on the implications of sustainability–both the challenges and the opportunities–I have dedicated my energies and experiences as an entrepreneur, adult educator, and business analyst to helping leaders and organizations innovate, realize their potential, and explore how to become more sustainable.

I received a BA degree in International Development from the University of Massachusetts, worked in adult literacy, started several companies, and have traveled extensively abroad for speaking on trends in e-learning and measuring business value for corporations, non-profits, and the public sector.

Today I’m very excited about working with great people at my company, Strategic Measures, Inc., and promoting my new book, Smart Green: How to Implement Sustainable Practices in Any Industry—And Make Money. These activities also provide me the opportunity to work with a variety of leaders globally through my blog, SmartGreenBusiness.com and through a monthly video series, “Envision Smart Green”. I reside in Hillsborough, NC with my wife and my youngest son out of four children who are now chasing their own dreams.
